A South Asian Wedding is usually very cultural in nature and goes over multiple days. A Wedding is being referred by different names in different south Asian countries like Shaadi in India, Nikah in Pakistan, Bibāha in Bangladesh. The only thing which is common in all these is the colors and the beauty of wedding. In all these countries wedding is not a one-day affair. So in this blog we’ll particularly talk about Shaadi which is basically a Hindi word and its usually the Hindu weddings which is being called as Shaadi.

The rituals, traditions and processes of a Hindu wedding vary widely, by  locality and community. The Hindu wedding ceremony at its core is essentially a Vedic yajna ritual and three key rituals are almost universal: Kanyadan, Panigrahana, and Saptapadi—which are respectively, giving away of his daughter by the father, voluntarily holding hands near the fire to signify union, and taking seven ‘steps before fire’. (Each ‘step’ is a complete circuit of the fire.)
